Donald J Brang, “DB”, beloved father, grandfather, and lifelong entrepreneur, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2025. He was 82 years old.
Born on October 10, 1942, in Syracuse, New York, Don dedicated his life to his family, his work, and his passions. He is survived by his children: Michael Brang (Julie), Jimmy Brang (Karen), and Ginger Brang Whitenack (Todd); and by the mother of his children, BJ Brang. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Morgan, Madison, Jake, Jackson, Tyler, Lyla, Eva, and Parker.
For more than five decades, Don was a fixture in the Syracuse community as a hardworking business owner and visionary. His entrepreneurial journey began in the 1950s, mowing lawns and plowing snow to support himself. That early effort grew into a successful business. He founded Brang Company and later opened the Brang Garden Store and Nursery.
Don expanded the business into site construction, completing numerous municipal and private parks and recreation facilities. His company was also instrumental in Syracuse’s sidewalk rehabilitation and planting initiative. He eventually transitioned into commercial real estate, continuing to invest in and contribute to the growth of his community.
Outside of work, Don had a deep love of flying. From piloting ultralights to helicopters, he often took to the skies to wave to friends and neighbors below—just one of the many ways he stayed connected to the people he cared about.
Don Brang was a self-made man—resilient, innovative, generous, and always in motion. His life touched many, and his legacy lives on through the family he loved, the landscapes he shaped, and the skies he flew. He will be deeply missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association to support continued research and care for those affected by dementia. A private memorial service will be held for immediate family to honor Don’s life and legacy
