Dinita Machlin

Dinita Ann Machlin of Syracuse, passed away June 29, 2023 at the age of 66. Known as Aunt Eya by her cherished nieces and nephews, she always brought tremendous laughter and spontaneous fun and joy to all occasions. Dinita was an amazingly outgoing and kind-hearted person. Being extremely selfless, throughout the teetering of life, she was always admirable to discuss anything with, as she truly spoke with immense understanding and compassion, while being incredibly uplifting. Dinita held a strong passion for music, enjoying a variety of genres and styles, as she loved appreciating live concerts whenever the opportunity. She also enjoyed the outdoors, whether taking a walk or relaxing on beautiful days; serene. Dinita also was a fitness enthusiast, focused and hard-working, she ran and accomplished multiple 5k races. Her presence at family gatherings was always deeply anticipated, for it would never be the same without our Aunt Eya, especially when she brought her hilarious sarcasm and wit.

Dinita Graduated from Jamesville DeWitt H.S. and Maria Regina College as an LPN, Dinita worked a dedicated 40 years as a Medical Library Assistant at the Health Sciences Library of Upstate Medical University. Throughout the years, she developed many cherished and eternal friendships that meant so much to her. She was married 35 yrs. to Chet Machlin and enjoyed many memorable times together.

Dinita was predeceased by her sister Fedora Paolelli and brother-in-laws Steve Paolelli and Timothy Haley. She was survived by her husband Chet, and he step son Joshua Machlin, her two beloved dachshunds Luca and Willow, sister Nina Haley, parents Dominic and Tosca DeSantis, nieces and nephews Tina (Bruce) McQuiston, Paul Haley, Dominic (Tristi) Paolelli, Crystal (Aaron) Paolelli-Knight, Peter (Nicole) Haley, as well as Cameron, Owen, Collin, and Lily.

During the last 2 months of compassionate & caring help to Dinita was Chet, Nina, Tina, Paul, Dom, Crystal & Peter and the greatest friends, Nancy Burtis, Deidre Brennan, Sherry Wlodarski, Janine Heisler and Jayne LeRoux.

Calling hours will be at Burns-Garfield Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 26th ,  from 4-6pm with a service to follow  at 6pm.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the fabulous: Hospice of CNY, 990 Seventh North St., Liverpool, 13088 or Francis House, 108 Michaels Ave, Syracuse 13208.
