Diane Collins

October 14, 1932 — January 22, 2016

Diane Collins, 83, of Syracuse passed away peacefully at Van Duyn after a nine year struggle with Alzheimer's disease. A graduate of Nottingham High School, Diane earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Latin American Studies from Syracuse University. She worked as the secretary for Chancellor Trolley at Syracuse University and was full time Mom until 1970 when she became the Director of the Meadowbrook Play House Nursery School where she was affectional y known as the "piano Lady".

Diane will be remembered for her kindness, quick wit and desire to lend a helping hand. She was an active literacy volunteer for 12 years. She loved playing bridge, taking bus trips to Atlantic City for the Penny slot machines and encouraging her two daughters to strive for success.

Predeceased by her husband and high school sweet heart John R. Collins in 2004, her daughter Cheryl and Son-in-law Gary Sauer.

Diane is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Laura (China) and Joseph (Jay) Ilacqua of Syracuse, her grandson Joseph (Joey) whom she loved and adored. As well as four nieces and one nephew.

Services 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 26, at Burns Garfield Life Celebration Home. Burial to follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4-6 pm at the funeral home, 3175 East Genesee St. Syracuse.
