Dene C. Zografos, 89 of Onondaga Hill, passed away Saturday at St. Camillus. He was born in Springfield, Massachusetts to Christos and Merope Zografos who had immigrated from Greece.
Dene served in the army medical corps during the Korean Conflict. He attended Syracuse University where he met his wife Christine Carageorge. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from Syracuse University in 1955 and worked as a civil engineer at the federal, state and local levels. Dene retired as head engineer for the sewer division for the city of Syracuse where he worked for 25 years. After retiring, he worked as a volunteer at Community General Hospital. He is a member of St Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church and at one time served as a Sunday school teacher.
Dene loved family and social gatherings and travel. He especially loved the ocean and enjoyed spending time in Florida during the winter.
He was predeceased by his wife of 45 years, Christine on August 4, 2000.
Surviving are his children Linda (Richard) Miller, Dina (John) Owens and Dorothy Zografos, 3 grandsons Justin, Joshua and Zachary and close friend Mary Wortham.
Friends and family may visit on Thursday from 4 to 7pm at the Burns Garfield Funeral Home, 3175 E Genesee St in Syracuse. Funeral Services will be held Friday at 12:00 pm at St Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church followed by burial in the Onondaga Valley Cemetery.
