Daniel Wheeler Freeman born August 8, 1938 in Syracuse passed away at the age of 82 from complications of Covid19 at Upstate University Hospital on February 7, 2021.
Dan was a child care worker at Fairmount Children Center, Elmcrest Children Center and Hillbrook Juvenile Detention Center. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 8 years and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a boxer, played semi pro football and played 2 seasons with the New York Jets.
Dan was preceded in death by his father Wheeler Freeman, mother Ethel Melvina Owens Freeman, brothers Edward and Leonard Freeman and sister's Patricia and Star Freeman.
He is survived by his wife Janet Freeman, son's Daniel and Jason Freeman and Chad Anderson. Daughters Danita Freeman-Wynn (Elson), Joi Freeman, brother Kip Freeman and sister's Ethel Shabazz, Paulette Ellis and sister-in-law Carol Taylor, 6 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and generations of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be Friday, February 12, from 10am-12 pm at Burns-Garfield Funeral Home, 3175 East Genesee St. Syracuse. With Funeral Services following at 12pm. The service will be lived streamed at www.facebook.com/burnsgarfield
