Consuelo Medina Castro joined our Almighty Creator on October 24, 2021. She passed peacefully in her home in Los Angeles, CA at the age of 105 years old. Consuelo was born in the Philippines, Province Looc Romblon on August 9, 1916. She was a loving, devoted mother and grandmother and a caring, compassionate wife. She was affectionately called "Mama Conching" by her loved ones.
She was the second of nine children to Francisco and Catalina Medina. She had the longest journey among nine siblings to live a happy & fulfilled life over 100 years old.
A lifetime of memories were created as she embarked on her own journey, marrying her husband the late Democrito M. Castro, on January 4, 1941 and was blessed with a large, loving family of her own. Her legacy lives on with her 8 children Arturo Castro (Cecilia), Rosalinda Guerrero (Antonino), Rebecca Maglente (Conceso), Nestor Castro (Jona), Efren Castro (Lorna), Emeline Jimenez (Robert), Grace Ecal (D'Jahlma) and Rene Castro – Virginia, 22 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
She loved to travel and ventured in places such as China, Hong Kong, France, Spain & the Holy Land. The simplest pleasures in life such as singing, sewing, cooking, arts & crafts brought her great joy. She was a gifted pianist and played many beautiful musical compositions from memory.
She was a member of the Silverlake Adult Daycare in Los Angeles, CA where the daily activities commenced after she played the piano for the opening flag ceremony. She received several special achievements: honoring Centenarians on September 13, 2020, a certificate of recognition from the Mayor Garcetti as an "Outstanding Mother of the Filipino Community" on May 19, 2019 and the "Mother of the Year at Lions Club".
Consuelo's faith in God was a true reflection of how she lived her life. She had a kind heart and generous spirit and will be remembered for her unconditional love to all her children, grandchildren & great grandchildren. Her gift to the world has been to embrace all with love and understanding. She brought a ray of light into our lives that will not be forgotten and cannot be replaced. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
The family invites you to a memorial service at Holy Cross Church in Dewitt, NY on Monday, November 29, 2021 at 10am, followed by a procession to St. Mary's Cemetery where she will be laid to rest.
