Barbara G. Schunck, 87, of Jamesville, passed away on January 7, 2018 with her family by her side. Barbara was born in Bradford, Pennsylvania to the late Paul D. and Leone K. Godfrey, on October 4, 1930. Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She graduated from Saint Vincent's Academy (Albuquerque, NM) in 1948. Barbara graduated from the University of New Mexico in 1952 where she was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. She served in the Korean War with the Women's Medical Service Corp as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army. She met and married her husband George in Fort Knox, Kentucky.
Barbara was a registered dietician at the VA Hospital in Syracuse. She was a past member of the Corinthian Foundation and the Jolly Moosers. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels, American Cancer Society and Alpha Chi Omega Sorority.
Barbara loved spending time with family and friends at Big Moose Lake in the Adirondacks. She was a member of Holy Cross Church and the Big Moose Community Chapel.
Barbara is predeceased by her parents, and sister, Phyllis.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, George Schunck; her three children, James (Kristen), Lawrence (Karen), and Lorraine (John View), all of Jamesville. The pride and joy of her life were her four grandchildren; Allison and Brendon Schunck, and Kenneth and Matthew Schunck. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Charles Schunck and several nieces and nephews. The Schunck family would like to thank the staff at Menorah Park for their care while Barbara was in residence.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00p.m. on Thursday January 11, 2018 at Burns-Garfield Funeral Home, 3175 East Genesee Street, Syracuse, NY. A funeral mass will be held on Friday January 12, 2018 at 10:00 am at Holy Cross Church, 4112 East Genesee Street, Dewitt, NY. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Dewitt.
