Barbara Hayes

Barbara M. (O’Connor) Hayes, 94 passed away on April 29, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.  Barbara was a lifetime resident of the Syracuse area and a proud graduate of the first class at Lemoyne College in 1951, obtaining her BS degree in Social Studies.  She received her MA in Education from Syracuse University. Barbara was a NYS Certified teacher and spent 10 years teaching kindergarten at Onondaga Road Elementary School. 

Barbara, Len, and family enjoyed their camp on Fourth Lake in the Adirondacks. Barbara was the family historian and was excited to connect with her cousin and her family in Upperchurch, County Tipperary, Ireland; numerous visits continued over the years.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, children, and grandchildren and the many adventures they had throughout the countryside and Adirondacks; as well as baking, canning, and berry picking. Barbara was known for having the cleanest house around!

Barbara was pre-deceased by her loving husband Len. She is survived by her five children, Therese (Don) Gigliotti, Colleen (Peter) Ayer, Margaret (Patrick) Murphy, Jennifer (Dan) Kelley, and Paul (Tayla Burch) Hayes; 7 grandchildren, and 2 great- granddaughters. 

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, May 10 2023 at 10 am at All Saints Church on Lancaster Ave., Syracuse.  Calling hours will be held at the church from 9-10 am prior to the Mass.  Burial will immediately follow the mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery.  A memorial luncheon at Drumlins will follow. Donations may be made in Barbara's name to the Alzheimer's Association, Central New York Chapter, 5015 Campuswood Dr Suite 102, East Syracuse, NY 13057
