Audrey W. Dwyre died on November 19 at Crouse Hospital. She was born on December 6, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois. She graduated in 1945 from St. John's Academy in Syracuse and from St. Mary's Nursing School in Amsterdam, New York in 1948. She began her nursing career in Syracuse, New York.
Audrey, the only child of Bernice and Jack Wetmore married Daniel H. Dwyre, also an only child. They went on to raise their eleven children. In 1982 she received a Masters degree in Public Administration from the Newhouse School at Syracuse University.
She moved to Saginaw, Michigan to become Vice President of Nursing. She return to her home in Syracuse upon retirement and continue to work for 10 more years at Rosewood Heights nursing Home.
Audrey was pre-deceased by her husband, Daniel (1988), three sons, Joseph (1996), Paul (2013), and Sean (2015). Audrey is survived by eight children Susan (Michael), Mark, Amy (Chuck), Thomas (Carol), Monica (Rick), Patty, Daniel (Donna), John (Jennifer), eighteen grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren.
Audrey was a remarkable woman and mother with an inexhaustible strength of spirit. She loved theater both local and Broadway, was a great dancer and enjoyed
all kinds of music. She was incredibly bright, compassionate, insightful and pragmatic. But above all, she was a loving mother who left us with many memories that we will cherish forever. She will be missed immensely.
Calling hours will be Saturday, December 2 from 12 noon to 2 PM at Burns-Garfield Funeral , 3175 East Genesee St., Syracuse. It was Audrey's wish that any contributions be sent to Syracuse Stage.
