Ann (Meighan) Doherty passed away February 25th at the age of 86. Ann was born and raised in Wethersfield, Connecticut, the daughter of Cornelius and Mildred Meighan. She was a graduate of Mount St. Joseph Academy, and St. Francis Nursing School in Hartford where she was a registered nurse. Ann married Francis H. Doherty in 1959 and they were together until his passing in 2012. Ann is survived by her children, Patricia (Tom) Maroney, Timothy (Brenna) Doherty, Daniel Doherty, and Erin Doherty; her grandchildren, Molly (Kenny) Schunck, Caitlin Doherty, Katie (Ryan) Pandolfi, Jack Doherty, and Athena Haley; and her great grandchildren, Taylor and Madison Schunck.
After leaving Connecticut, Ann and Fran spent four years in Viriginia/Washington, D.C. before moving to New Jersey. They made their home in Fayetteville, New York starting in the summer of 1972 and remained there for the rest of their lives. When her youngest child was in elementary school, Ann returned to working part time, assisting her husband in their mortgage banking company, and working as a real estate agent for Olson-Peck. But neither of these were suited to Ann’s skills as a caregiver, and she returned to college to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. She graduated from Le Moyne College in 1989 and was a social worker for the rehabilitation unit at Elderwood (formerly Birchwood) Health Care Center in Liverpool for over 20 years. Following her retirement at age 73, she continued to volunteer part time for a few years in the local community, helping other seniors.
Ann’s greatest pastime was reading fiction, but she also enjoyed sewing, antiquing, crosswords, card games, and phone calls with family members and lifelong friends.
